World Championship, 1978

The 1978 season of the World Trial’s Championship saw a tight battle of 2 contenders, Yrjö Vesterinen (Bultaco) and Martin Lampkin (Bultaco). At the end the difference was simply 2 points with Vesterinen claiming his third consecutive world title.<br>The young American Superstar Bernie Schreiber came a close third.<br>We saw the appearance of 3 promising young Spaniards in the top ten: Toni Gorgot (7th.), Jaume Subirà (9th.) and Manuel Soler (10th.).<br>Bultaco came in with the model 198, which it was a worthy evolution of their successful model.<br>Montesa contended with the version 2 of the Cota 348.<br>Ossa came back with a yellow prototype mounted by legendary Mick Andrews and Honda brought the RTL 360 works with Rob Shepherd.
